I work for a company that does technical work for the government. I got a new supervisor in my department and I tried to be just a good employee. I can't really get into what I do, but it's super technical and would be helpful to have a confirmed written guidance about what's expected. The problem is there has never been one for the 3 years I've been in this job. The government end is supposed to have a process laid out that's replicable and easy to follow. They've never actually done that though. So I get told I'm needed for a staffing meeting on a Monday about 3 weeks ago. I get handed a performance improvement plan. On it are things like “will use the approved and supplied templates to create deliverables” and “refrain from making unprofessional comments about outside entities (other government offices.)” It's a 60 day thing and it ends right in the middle of my vacation to Disneyworld. I spent a lot of money on that and I can't get a refund on anything. The biggest issue I've got though is that I already have done all I can on the one project I'm on contract for, so I haven't been able to produce anything with the new templates that aren't out and available yet.
Further context. I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder and an eating disorder. I'm a rather large male. I'm worried they're going to let me get back on the 11th, make me finish the work week, and then fire me! I'm also worried they might just cut my salary. I make 99k a year doing a very high level cyber security thing. I live in Coastal Virginia. I've never been fired before, and I'm so nervous I've been over eating, staying up late at night and basically a nervous wreck. I also don't think that if they fire me, I'll be able to get another cyber security job anywhere because I've been looking and applying and none of them are responding to my applications! I'm worried that if I apply for unemployment they'll take one look at me and just immediately decide, “Go do physical labor!”
I hope I'm just overreacting, but what do you all think?
