I have never been more frustrated in my life. I hope this is the appropriate place for this, but I need to get this out.
When I moved into my apartment 2 years ago, my rent was $1107/mo. A new company took over in the middle of my lease with the old one, and I either had to sign a renewal or move, where I was subject to $287– yes, you read that right, $287 rental increase (I did the the math). I currently work full time in a restaurant while I’m looking for a full time job and I just got screwed on my paycheck. We are paid every 2 weeks on a paycheck instead of nightly, and I have requested both of my pay stubs immediately, because my earned wages and paid wages do not match up. I planned on keeping my restaurant job while I worked for my new job full time.
I have a Bachelor’s degree. I have 5 years of experience in the financial industry. The kind of salary offers I received are some like:
$12-$13/hr paralegal for local law firm
$26-32k for admin, scheduler, operations
$17/hr branch office admin
$15/hr data or research analyst with bank
If I made 30k/yr taxed at 20% combined for state, federal, SSI, etc. I am left with $2000/mo, meaning my rental rate is 70% of my income.
And they wonder why anyone under 35 is mentally ill, has the lowest voter turnout, and doesn’t buy real estate. We will probably never see SSI, I have no health insurance, will probably never be able to buy a home, have no emergency savings, and I just moved a roommate in. What is my incentive to continue to contribute to a society where corporations and government rob me at every turn? I’m giving up on America.
