Inconsistent scheduling and never enough people

Hello there. I work at a minimum wage job at a major movie theatre chain in Canada and we specialize in serving people over the age of 19 (the legal drinking age in Ontario) and only allowing people over the age of 19 into our threatres. One thing we have been suffering from is horrible scheduling and never having enough people. For example, with the Mario movie it was sold out today and they only had person running concession and they were also expected to run orders and serve the front counter of concession at the same time. This was utterly fucked because they didn’t have a scheduled food runner not coming into at least 5, and they had been since 11 in the morning. The managers stepped in help along with anyone would could, but it was utterly fucked. The managers themselves are responsible for the scheduling but it’s…

The managers themselves are responsible for the scheduling but it’s always so inconsistent. I’ve had this problem when I run the concession booth myself with not having an official food runner but it’s fine if we’re not that busy. But I’m working tomorrow and it’s still the long weekend and I am deathly afraid they are going to pull the same stunt with me. Idk what to do, besides talking to my GM. I figured if I refuse to work or run the orders, they’ll fire me. I like the job as it’s fairly simple and I can make some good money, but this is very frustrating.

I also understand if people are legitimately sick but most of the time they aren’t. They just straight up skip their shifts
