Is it normal that you are supposed to attend corporate calls without getting paid?

I am a European who's been living in the US for about 3 years. I'm working in a professional field in which employees are required to document the time they spent working on specific tasks in a timesheet that needs to be submitted at the end of each week. So far, so normal. Every now and then, the company has corporate calls in which they talk about things like the state of the company or about technological advancements in the field. This is where my confusion kicks in. Charge codes are never provided for these (typically 1 hour long) calls. What that actually means is that they kind of assume that everyone attends unpaid.

Is this normal in the US? My first job right out of college was in the EU for a different company in which we also had these calls on a regular basis. They always provided charge codes… every single time.

I brought up so many issues like this one to HR over my 3 years at this company, but I seem to be on a lone post. It is just so frustrating that most people seem to quitely accept it, and I am almost in shock about my colleagues' cowardly behavior.
