is it reasonable to ask about overtime hours and work life balance in career hunting?

I've been paralyzed with anxiety over this for a while and I wanna know if I'm being unreasonable. I'm trying to figure out what profession I want to do with my life but it feels like every single one in the U.S. is being subjected to insane hours for low pay at the moment. I don't wanna be filthy rich, I just want to be comfortable. Is it reasonable for me to just work 40 hours a week and be done at that and is it reasonable for me to turn down jobs that don't see it that way? I don't mind working the very occasional overtime but I hear with some places it's utterly constant and I don't wanna be trapped in infinite 60 hour workweeks.
