Is non-regulated PTO a trick?

My company recently changed our PYO policy. We no longer accumulate PTO… HOWEVER, we can just take whatever we want, with approval. Also, the approval is super ‘lax’ as in…. You ask… you get… pretty much. I mean… I guess unless it was crazy? I haven’t seen anything like that so far. Ever since the change I’ve been thinking about how amazing it is…. But also…. What’s the angle…. Because there’s ALWAYS an angle. I mean, this company really does seem to care about it’s employees…. But NEVER been at a company who actually does that. I mean…. They’re so good they don’t even START with that family bullshit…. ARE there good companies out there?!?! Also, I really am trying to figure out the angle, but if it actually IS a good company PLEASE don’t think I’m bragging. I’m obviously on this sub… I’ve been fucked by companies why whole…

I just don’t want to be screwed over even worse by actually thinking they’re ‘one of the good ones’ if they’re just playing a more manipulative game.
