Had a job interview today which actually turned out to be just a pre-interview screening. Because of the storm, my interviewer, who was the HR person and had nothing to do with my department or position, told me she didn't have her camera on because of WiFi connectivity issues. So I was talking to a blank screen for about 15 minutes.
Immediately, I could just sense the tone of this woman not being interested in what she was doing and she just read off a list of basic questions that I'd heard a million times before.
“What do you consider one of your strengths?”
“What would your manager say about you?”
“What would your superiors say about room for improvement?” etc. etc.
Once we finish, she seems to immediately want to sign off and honestly, when I was answering, I just felt it going in one ear and out the other (again, who knows, her camera was off). She didn't even want to answer any questions because if I had any questions about the role, which I did, those questions were for the hiring manager who I would directly be working with (and that wouldn't even be the final interview round).
So, why didn't the damn manager just meet with me, to begin with, to save us all a step?
Didn't this use to be easier? You meet the person who is hiring you right off the bat, they decide they like you, and they bring you on. Wouldn't it make more sense to save time and money to condense this frustrating hiring and onboarding process? I just don't understand.
