I recently got my first office based job after working retail and hospitality since I was sixteen. It's absolutely crazy how much of a difference it's made in my mental health and happiness, but in a way it makes me more angry at how I was previously treated at my other jobs. At this new job I can barely contain my happiness at getting weekends off. Like, I get the entire weekend, every week, guaranteed. That feels INSANE! Working in hospitality, I don't believe I've had an entire weekend off since I started working. At this new job, when I want to take a day off, I just email someone and they're like 'fine', but before I had to give FOUR WEEKS NOTICE for a single fucking day off, and even then it wouldn't be guaranteed. I get an hour for lunch during my work day, something that was unheard of in my previous jobs. I literally cannot believe my luck. Having set, rigid, work/life boundaries has changed my life. I believe that rotas that demand you be 'fully flexible' throughout the week are truly evil, because you have absolutely no control over your life or plans, you literally can't make plans with anyone, do anything, until you have your rota. I now have what feels like the luxury of planning my life, and knowing that those plans will happen. It's just INSANE!!!!!!!!1
