Im sorry to rant but I find it discouraging as all hell that I work at a hospital (as a sitter) and got paid only $13 for doing stuff outside of my scope. I’d watch up to 5 psych patients at once, always at risk of getting assaulted in all ways, tech upstairs for other units and even was tried to be pushed off to secretary work when they didn’t have one.
My coworkers and superiors encouraged me to get my CNA to have another valid reason to get a pay raise (I was dragged around to translate spanish and the other stuff mentioned above). I went ahead and got certified even after my community college tried to scam me into paying full price for the course after qualifying for a low cost program.
Once I was fully certified, I was offered a title change from sitter to PCT at $1 more. Now, im sent upstairs last second (house supervisors know hours beforehand but never bother to communicate) to be their tech. I hardly get help from the nurses when it comes to their patients, have been yet again pushed into caring for more than one patient and even at one point almost pushed to hand out medication which I flat out refused as im not medication tech in my state and will not risk my license.
I tried applying to other jobs and while I have 2 years experience, my CNA and being bilingual (which are all preferred in my area at least) I never had a call back.
I feel hopeless
