Job won’t tell me if I’m Seasonal or Permanent

I recently moved to a new city and got a job at a tourist attraction. At the interview they said they were hiring for both seasonal and permanent full-time. I told them I would only be interested in a permanent position. They said of course no problem. I got hired and honestly this is probably the easiest job I've ever had, I don't want to quit and generally have no complaints about the work atmosphere. However I wasn't too happy when I discovered that I had been coded as a seasonal employee. I asked my direct supervisor about it, and they told me that over the summer everyone is coded as seasonal, but that I'd be welcome to stay past the season if I wanted to. Around this time, the director of Human Resources sent me an application for health insurance. It's a really good insurance plan by American standards.…

It's a really good insurance plan by American standards. I hesitated to sign up for it, since I still didn't have any written proof of what my employment status was. No sense signing up for health insurance if I'm only going to have it for 2 or 3 months, right? I asked her point blank to clarify my employment status, and she claimed she didn't have access to that info, that it was better to ask my direct supervisor. I asked my direct supervisor for something in writing and they never gave me anything but another verbal reassurance that I was only “temporarily seasonal.” The deadline to sign up for coverage has since passed and I remain unsure if it was a mistake not to sign up. I realize some jobs have a 90 day probationary period, and thought maybe that's what's going on here, but, like I said, nobody will provide me anything in writing. If it's not in writing then it's not official, right? What if I got hired as a permanent employee but I did something to make them change their minds and switch me to seasonal? The whole situation has caused me a lot of anxiety. Am I overreacting here?

In the meantime, I gave up on finding answers, and started slacking off hardcore. I sign up for extra shifts to milk them of as much money as possible and don't miss any days, but I no longer do tasks as quickly as possible, I take more bathroom breaks, I go to break for 20 minutes instead of 15, etc, etc. I've become very good at looking busy even when I'm not doing anything. It helps that I'm earning more money than ever before while doing way less work than jobs normally expect of me. I have every intention of holding on to this job as long as they let me, or until I find something that pays more.
