I’m the manager of a gym in a really high income area that caters to rich people (high prices, butler like customer service, hecka amenities, you get it). A woman wants to interview for a job, coming from what I would be our main competitor.
She is 42 mom of 2, who worked for our competition for FIVE YEARS, they require her to work 30 hour shifts, but she only gets paid for time with clients… clients she has to go find and sell herself to. So she has to spend the majority of her day interrupting individual’s workouts or marketing to her personal friends and family UNPAID. Cleaning the facility and putting away weights unpaid, picking up phone calls and more. At $22 an hour for seven of her 30 hours poor woman brings in $154 a week BEFORE TAXES which barely covers her gas.
The owner used to tell me horror stories of people paid like this and until today I straight up didn’t believe him. I told my coworker who is a brand new dad, he thinks it should be criminal because she is making like $3.78 hr after tax including all hours worked.
