Just got the news today that instead of our four days a week/ten hour shifts, we’re being switched to five days a week/eight hour shifts. Management says that the summer weather will be too hot if we stay on our four days a week schedule and they don’t want our production to suffer from us taking too many breaks.
Am I crazy for thinking that this doesn’t make any sense? “It’s too hot four days of the week, so let’s have you guys start working five days a week”?
This schedule change begins next week. We don’t get paid holidays, but have always had the option to make up missed holidays hours on Fridays (one of our days off). When asked if we could make up next week’s holiday (Fourth of July) hours to avoid missing out on our normal 40 hours a week, management told us “no” and that “the employee handbook states that they change everyone’s schedules if they need to, as long as they give 24 hour notice”.
I don’t think there’s much I can do. Just wanted to complain a bit.
