I spent 3 months doing interviews for a top ten. My hiring class was promised that if we stayed, we could make our career there. That from the first day, the company has never does layoffs and that we’re offered multiple opportunities before being fired to take trainings and make improvements to turn our path around.
My first year, I got a nice raise and then my second year it was amazing. The kind of raise that I had never received anything close to in previous jobs .
My third year I got close to nothing and three months later I was laid off with one day notice (along with most of my particular office).
I’m really struggling with this after working so hard to secure the position and putting my all into it. Even worse, we were told the layoffs were completely randomized and nobody could take anybody’s place so the other wouldn’t be laid off. What’s even the point if even the top firms in the world can’t offer you a real future?
Now looking at new positions, I’m going to have to start from the very bottom despite having a bachelor’s. It seems like nobody cares about my previous experience, my positive reference letters, or alumni.
I guess I need to look at spending more money to get a Master’s degree now to get a position with another company that can at least offer decent insurance for under $1k a month.
I hate this. Where does it end? When do I get to actually live my life and not slave over a job where I’m not a number?
