Company that was supposed to be employee focused and focused on sustainability has taken on investors from destroyers of the rain forest, gone public, and just had their first round of layoffs. This is a conversation with a third tier manager I had since the upper two are on extended vacations celebrating their promotions.
Sort of Manager: “I’m supposed to sign for this thing that came for Steve who was laid off. They said to fridge it if we’re using it soon or freeze it if not right away. “
Me: /shrug. “I’d say freeze it then. Since no one knows what he was doing with it or what it is.”
Sort of Manager: “big boss slacked me last night and said they’d be out a couple of days but to not let us stall out and stop progressing.”
Me: “Ok… so who was caught up on Steve’s work and who’s taking on his projects?”
Sort of Manager: “……”
Me: /shrug. “Seems like we’re stalling a bit whether big boss likes it or not.”
I understand sometimes companies have to do what they have to do. But shit… if they made the mistakes to get the company in trouble, they should damn well take responsibility for it and get the pay cuts and firings that result. Not bonuses and promotions.
