Perhaps this is more of a rant than anything
I’m a funeral director and have been for the last two years, went to college, found a degree that should garner a stable enough living. Or so I thought
The funeral service industry is a fucking joke. Period. What does it entail? Well for starters you work egregiously long and hard days and most nights, and usually you’re out into all hours of the night, on demand 24/7 if you’re lucky you might get a day off every now and again
Not only that but you’re exposed to a whole beautiful variety of toxic, carcinogenic chemicals that will inevitably damage your body as the years go by, not to mention the exposure to extremely harmful bacteria, and diseases, from everything from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, to a staph infection, with no more than a plastic apron and latex gloves to shield yourself.
Now I can live with being extremely overworked, over stressed and overwhelmed. That’s perfectly fine but what I cannot abide is the criminality of underpayment for directions across the country, very few firms that I am aware of pay above their state’s minimum wage; even fewer offer any kind of benefits such as health insurance and any kind of pension or 401k. I have taken deceased children from their mothers arms and heard the most horrendous of sobs, I have seen the worst of intrusive thoughts winning, when a man took his own life, I have held the very control center for life in my hands, given myself immense emotional and mental scars, all for less than a Walmart employee makes; all why the owner takes elaborate vacations and cruises, gets a new car every year, all why I languish to barley eat or pay rent, or even make plans with my family
Idk what kind of point I’m trying to make here so downvote me or remove the post, I’m just fed up, eat the rich and cremate your dead, don’t give these vultures any more fucking money
