To maintain a level of privacy, I won't mention where I work or what I do.
Recently my coworker left for another job, we were the only two that worked in our position. After my coworker left, I told my boss I would be more than willing to take on the extra work for a raise and he wouldn't have to worry about hiring someone else. Frequently there isn't enough work for two people anyhow.
Today I overheard him saying he extended an offer to someone for the job, including a sign on bonus and at a higher starting pay than what I currently make after 8 years at this company. This instantly pissed me off and I immediately started looking for another job. Now I am the only person that knows my job, so me leaving would REALLY screw this place over.
My question is for those of you who waived a two week notice and quit on the spot. How did this affect your efforts in obtaining another job? I'm sure employers would view this as negative but I haven't been in the job market for over a decade, so any insight would be helpful.
