Looking for advice about getting a salary adjustment

I’ve been at this job about 5 months, and I didn’t negotiate my salary when I started because I had been laid off and I just needed the job. There was no salary range listed, and I lowballed my “expected salary” in my application to make sure I got my foot in the door. They offered me what I asked for, and I accepted it. Now, they’re hiring another person in the same role as me. They listed a salary range this time, and it’s between 5k less than what I make up to 15k more than what I make.

They’ve hired someone who has less experience than me, but I don’t know what salary they’ve given the new hire.

I’ve regretted not asking for $10k more from the start, which is what I think I’m worth and now I know it’s within the range for my role. The annual salary revisions happen in December, and I fear I’ll get an increase that still puts me below my desired income. I also don’t want to wait that long.

What can I do in this situation? Should I bring up the listed salary range for the new hire to my boss, and say that if I had known what it was I would have asked for more? Should I try to negotiate a raise earlier than December since I’ll be involved in training the new hire? Should I ask what the internal practices are for ensuring fair pay for people in the same role?

Any advice is welcome and appreciated!
