Management ‘suggests’ changes to shift system, shocked at a third of the team replying with resignation before end of year.

I work at some glorified servicedesk doing mainly network and security troubleshooting, voice over IP troubleshooting and catch & dispatch for some specialized products. We're inbetween a first and second line and have a shift system where most people work '9-5' more or less and a third of us works mornings, late and nightshifts. As external consultant, which I and 5 more out of a 12man team are, 1 week of nightshifts is half a month's pay in net bonus. This week a mail was sent to only the internal people that they wanted to change the night shift roster (2 people logged in at all times) to 1 person for the 10hr nightshift, external consultants no longer being elegible for the night shifts. Expert team would handle overflow in case of multiple calls. They ask for feedback. Meeting on tuesday morning, originally online, changed to in-person only. The 'communications…

The 'communications guy' that sent the mail is the guy that always makes us aware of decisions set in stone by 'higher up the chain' and just has to take the shit, they take the feedback and use it to wipe their bum or whatever they do with it, nothing relevant ever at least.
Specified in the mail was that external consultants and union reps 'dont have to be made aware of this suggestion just yet'.

Of course the information got spread to the external consultants in our chatgroup and because this means that us external consultants get a pay cut of at least 30% due to no more bonus, a much shittier job with less flexibility in hours and a constantly worsening work environment, all 6 of us are leaving for greener pastures. This is not the USA so we have a certain period we need to stay on the job after resignation. 3 have immediately resigned and used all their remaining holiday hours for most of their days, 1 decided to take all of her remaining maternity and sick days which basicly covers her for the next 5 months and the other 3 have started looking for other jobs and are just waiting for job offers to time our resignation period with the start of the new job.

Just to make it a bit more clear: 11 out of 11 changes or projects that had an impact on our team in the last four years have been against everyones wishes, without doing anything with the requested feedback, have been poorly planned and ended up never getting completed after the initial implementation and 1 or 2 small bugfixes. Everything as underlying goal was to make it easier to pull numbers and make graphs for management. The track record of the projects and each time the same guy 'suggesting the change' means nobody has any hope it will change.

The internals staying are more or less civil servants or equal to them in benefits package so theyre staying.

Management pulled a big surprised pikachu at all the resignations. They intended to save maybe 10-15k a month and are currently met with 6 customer projects put on hold, 6 experienced workers leaving (im the most recent one with 5yrs at the job in a dept with a 1-1.5yr turnover) and a part of the dayshifters starting to have doubts about whether they want to be pulled into the mess of covering up mornings and lates for the people leaving.

Greener pastures and hopefully a raise at a new project or employer are awaiting me in the next few months!
