Clown new manager who already acts in a somewhat prejudice manner, ended up peaking through a vehicle parked nearby seeing a suspicious bag in the back that he believed was marijuana. For some reason he decided that it was me who had brought it despite not knowing what my vehicle looks like (News flash! I don't have a vehicle, can't afford one!) because he saw me sharing a smoke (that I didn't even buy) with a co-worker because…? We were both black?
Anyway the cops had come later after I was already on my way home. Clown manager told me to stay and I told him I was off why did I need to stay? He said he needed me longer and I told him I had already been there for 9 hours and I heard nothing from our district manager about a schedule change so I left. The smell of the marijuana was within the area when the cops came and he gave them MY address and told them he suspected I was selling to another co-worker, the co-worker who i was sharing a REGULAR cigarette with.
That didn't stop them from breaking my window panel, actually both panels it took some time after for the crack in the second one to get bigger, video below:

The cops were trying to get into my apartment but stopped when they got another call from another manager that I am likely not the right guy because I didn't have a car. After giving me a BS question about “where I stashed the car” I didn't have, they eventually apologized and backed off. Sadly my city gives cops immunity for drug searches so they are not replacing any of my windows, so I've had no choice but to staple some bags and tape them around the frames. Yeah, it's not really a solution but I'm just a server (and not even a proper one that gets access to many tips) so until Tuesday, NEXT Tuesday (25th) not this Tuesday, I won't see my last check, and I can't afford the replacement window panels right now. They want $100 to replace them which may not seem like much, but I just don't have that type of spare crash or access or credit to deal with that now, so I'm kind of up shits creek here.
I was informed later that day by the district manager, that everything would be fine and to come to work the next day. Then I was told that I would be given a different day and not to come in when the next day came. Later after this change up I received this email after several calls being unanswered and a vague voicemail:
Basically, I have been fired from my job for….Nothing. It's clear the trigger was the mistake with the police before, but they went around that by giving a very vague explanation which fits the criteria for every 'at will' state that allows any employer to fire any staff for any reason at all. They don't even mention what the violations are but technically, don't have too.
So with the cops immune, and the employer immune according to legal consult, not only am i just screwed out of a job for something I had nothing to do with, but I now have plastic bags were my windows should be (already breaking apart too) because I can't afford the $100 to replace the windows.
It's an example of how a lack of worker protections (and police accountability) in a state or city-by-city basis can put you in a position where there's literally nothing you can do. Nothing. I have no options at all I'm just supposed to sit here and take it. So now I'm going to have to go over a week with no windows (broken by cops who got the wrong guy) because I don't know when I'm going to get another job so can't waste money. Anyone can climb into my apartment, bugs and wasps already flying in and that's bad because spray around here is like $8.99 and I can't waste money like that, it's just a nightmare. Almost no charity anywhere no southern hospitality down here.
