Manager not giving 8 hours a week to her staff but getting herself 40+ because she “needed” the money”

Once I worked in a small coffeeshop. Nothing fancy, just a startup with good values and good quality. At the beginning, all the baristas would have the same amount of hours and you will get the tips that you can collect in your shift. Then, the owner got pregnant and she decided to hire a manager who worked at Starbucks and knew how to run a coffeeshop. She resign Starbucks because her old manager would make her life miserable and never got enough hours to have benefits. As soon as she started working she turned everything upside down. She would complained about her old manager and how she would never get enough hours to afford anything and how Starbucks would oppress. As soon as she started working she turned everything upside down. She would complained about her old manager and how she would never get enough hours to afford anything and how Starbucks would oppress. But as soon as she started writing the schedule, she would book herself for every day 8+ hours, clocking out on her phone from her house because she believed that the coffeeshop should pay for her commute, while the rest of the staff would struggle to even get 3 shifts a week.

Then the tips situation changed, she decided that all the tips would be distributed according to how many hours you worked. So it didn't matter if you got great tips, everything would be a percentage. It's important to said that she was the rudest most obnoxious barista ever. Wouldn't get almost any tips on her shifts and the only “bad reviews” the coffeeshop had where from clients that she serve them.

The owner didn't want to deal with her by this point. She had more important things to do. The only time the owner listen to the staff was when they told her that money was missing and that the manager was blaming them. One barista said that she started “borrowing” money from the cashier and making free drinks for all of her friends when they came to visit her.

Long story short, the owner decided to closed the coffeshop because was no longer profitable and the staff was coming and going so quickly. The manager was devastated because she changed her lifestyle and even move to a nicer apartment that she couldn't afford anymore.

I know that we always complained about our managers, but it's also good to look back and see where we started and where we are now. And not reapeat the same things that bad managers or other staff members did to us.
