Manager stopped me from leaving the office at 5:29pm…I work until 5:30pm

Hi everyone, So I’ve just started a new job working in an office; today was officially my 7th day. My hours are 9am to 5:30pm however I normally get to work around 8:30am depending on traffic so I’m in the office by 8:35-8:40am. Today I began packing my things up and heading out the door at 5:29pm when my manager stopped me, looked at her non-existent clock on her wrist, and said ‘ehh what time do you call this? Hi everyone,

So I’ve just started a new job working in an office; today was officially my 7th day.

Your hours are until 5:30’…by the time it took her to say all that the clock had struck 5:30 anyway!

There’s a few red flags that I’ve started to notice, such as requesting when I am allowed to take my lunch. As I am currently in training, I have been given leniency as to when I can take my lunch however once I finish training I will have to put the request in via my manager and if I don’t get the time I want then I basically have to work around everyone else in my team.

One of my managers is constantly hounding me to get training so I can start taking phone calls from clients; yet I was told that I would only start taking calls on my 3rd month of employment. His jokes are passive aggressive and very pushy; I’ve never worked in consultancy before so I’m nervous about being on calls but he’s very persistent on just throwing me into the deep end.
