Marriage name changes

Backstory: So I’ve had my job for about 8mo now. A month ago, I worked remotely while I was away getting married. In the marriage, me and my now wife had discussed me taking her last name. I have not legally changed it yet, as I am trying to get together a list of all the places I’ll need to change my name at, as well as waiting on my marriage certificate to come in the mail. Work: I decided to change my signature block on my email to reflect my new last name. Email address still has old last name for client relation purposes; they all know me by my family name. Again, just the signature at the bottom of my emails has changed.
I was directed by HR to change it back to my family name, and told that I can’t hyphenate either, and that we would “re-discuss” when I had legally changed it.

I like my job a lot, and it has really good perks and pay – so I don’t want to leave. It’s just the director of HR here is a bitch and has been on a power trip as of lately. I think she’s overstepped with me. Both my Supervisor and Boss have agreed there’s nothing wrong with my email signature being updated, but don’t know that HR has gotten onto me about changing it.
