Memories of being a restaurant manager.

Got to thinking about this the other day and how messed up it was. 1998/1999 range- recent college grad, with a hospitality degree, tons of restaurant experience both FOH and BOH- Hired as a Manager for a higher end restaurant company (privately held). Working for a location in Miami for maybe a year or so. Come into work one day, and get asked by my GM, “how do you feel about Boca Raton?” Me: “why?” Him: “Oh, you work there now, you start Wednesday. Best of luck.” Keep in mind, this was the first ever conversation about me going anywhere else, and the distance really required relocation. (1:20 drive each way under normal circumstances- for a 10-12 hour regular day in the restaurant biz, not feasible to commute) Being a 22 yr old kid without much of a clue, I just went along with it and didn’t even push back.…

Being a 22 yr old kid without much of a clue, I just went along with it and didn’t even push back.

I’ve been out of the restaurant biz for quite a while now- can’t say I miss it in the least.
