Mental health and the workplace?

If it is brought to the attention of the employer that an employee has a mental disorder/ptsd/anxiety, and the employer fails to accommodate the employee (but still works them as they see fit). Ultimately the employee’s condition worsens and they bring up “burnout” to their employer. Employer has allowed the employee to sit at home (going over a week now) to rest and “think about if he wants to continue working there” Do they have a strong case? Assuming that the employee’s termination will be due to poor work performance because they refuse to quit for the sake of unemployment benefits.
