Mom’s boss constantly calling her

My mom has always been a stay at home mom until my dad passed 3 years ago. She has since had to get back into the workforce. She’s now 61 years old and doesn’t really understand updated employee rights she has. She works at a college in Michigan doing cleaning. She told me her boss is always calling her after she’s come home for the day or on her days off telling her what needs to be done for her next shift or to complain that she needed to get more done. She always waits until my mom is off the clock and already home or on her days off to do this. My mom thinks her boss is allowed to do this and I told her NO she’s not supposed to, at least in California where I live my boss can’t do that without paying me. Does anyone know…

Does anyone know what the laws are in Michigan regarding this? Does her boss have to compensate her for the calls? Can she ignore the calls or is she obligated to pick up? Thank you!

Edit: she’s paid hourly and is full time if that matters.
