Must Watch: American Experience: The Gilded Age Documentary by PBS

Documentaries are some of my favorite things, and this is a really good one. We are absolutely living through it all over again. One of the first things highlighted in the film is a huge party thrown in 1897 by the Vanderbilts (The Vanderbilt Ball) and attended by the rich elites while millions of people were starving on slave wages. It was the same scenario back then as it is now: 1% of people controlled 99% of the wealth. People finally got tired of the shit and fought back. The result was unions and eventually, the New Deal. The wealthy elite learned how to play the game and they're playing us now and have been for decades, by pitting the rest of us against each other. If only everyone would figure that out. Watching this is a good first step for anyone who is a 'temporarily embarrassed millionaire'. I believe…
