Okay, so here is just a small sample of the bullshit I have had to deal with in my one year of employment.
-
this boss yelled at me before I was even clocked in because a different coworker had suggested swapping shifts with me. She did this right in the workroom in front of everyone. (I have the fact that she brought this up documented in an email, but at the time I downplayed the yelling because it was in my 90 day probationary period and I really needed the job)
-
on two occasions I was asked to start working 30 minutes early, amd she removed that time from my time sheet. I was also asked to work on my breaks multiple times (making popcorn for the children librarian's event that night when I should have been on my lunch break was a notable one). I have no documentation of this, but I do have witnesses.
-
A coworker of mine raised her hand to me as if she was going to hit me. When I reported it my boss said she “watched the tapes” and it “didn't happen” so I should “be careful who (I) repeat those claims to.”
-
Both my boss and one of my coworkers have taken to grabbing me to get my attention instead of talking to me. I have made them both aware of the fact that I do not care for this, but my boss just said that I am “in no physical danger.”
-
my coworkers go on homophobic and transphobic rants at the desk where patrons can hear. When I asked them to stop, because conversations like that create a hostile environment for lgbt staff and patrons, I was laughed off. I made my boss aware of this incident in person, where she said those comments “met her standards” (and I have a printed copy of her standards which says all conversations should be kept 5 year old appropriate, as well as a recording of the meeting), by contacting the head of the board, and in an email with her where she claims I never made her aware of the situation (which even if I didn't, she was within earshot of the conversation, and she said she was aware of it on the recording) and was “crafting a narrative” by quoting her words back to her about her approval of those conversations. She claims not wanting to talk to those coworkers for anything non-work related is creating a “hostile work environment” (I have this on recording) and what they said in those rants at the desk doesn't count as discrimination.
-
on multiple occasions coworkers have felt the need to comment on my lack of interest in dating and having kids. I informed my boss of one such incident where two coworkers were asserting that I “don't know what (I) want yet” and kept repeating that accusation as well as the accusation that I was “too young to know yet.” I repeated, as momotone as I could because the conversation was obviously making me uncomfortable, “no, I know what I want.” In response to my email about this incident my boss claimed she was there for the conversation (she was at her desk. So she heard this but wasn't aware of the homophobic rants that took place in the same spot?) And that it was “just a joke” despite the fact that no one was laughing, this has happened more than once, and that isn't something you joke about.
Idk what do do. I am applying to other jobs left and right but can't seem to get accepted. I can't afford to quit without another job lined up. I plan on reporting all of this once I have another job lined up and my two weeks notice turned in, but do I even have enough for anyone to do anything? Would this be more of a labor department issue or an eeoc issue?
