I'm a contract worker doing an order picking job in a warehouse to pick up some extra money for Christmas shopping. We can take our breaks pretty much whenever we like, so today I chose to finish an order and take my break a little bit later. Two minutes before it was done, my boss informed me that they were having a meeting for the “full-timers” so could I please go.
Maybe I'm just getting sensitive, but I couldn't believe I was getting kicked out of the only room I can take my break in so they could have a meeting. Couldn't they have the meeting in the office? Or online? Or after the 'all-hands' meeting we had three days ago? Or not at all, since meetings are generally a huge waste of time? No, it absolutely has to be now, and you absolutely have to kick me out of the chair that costs less than I make in an hour?
Well, fine. I left the breakroom and went to my “boss”'s office and sat in her chair for the duration of the meeting (about ten minutes), then when she came back, I returned to the breakroom and restarted the clock. I spent nearly an hour sitting on my ass and getting paid for it because these fucking goofs can't budget time or space correctly. Going forward, I'm taking an extra five minutes on all my breaks. Fuck 'em. It's my time, I'll decide what I do with it. Lucky for them I still get more done in a day when I'm working half-assed than they could in a week.
