My boss literally said, “thanks to everyone’s hard work….

….I don’t have to come into the office as much, and I don’t have to apologize for it” and then continued on with all of the things he gets to do for himself in his free time. It was said in a friendly setting of co-workers and everyone else seemed to nod and smile. They seemed to genuinely appreciate his comment and felt acknowledged for their “hard work.” I can’t believe I’m the only one who felt extremely put off by this comment. I would love to be able to take time to take care of myself when I need to – to go to mid-morning yoga classes and run errands and catch up with friends, hell, even make a doctor’s appointment without being lectured for missing work. It would be so nice not to squeeze grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning, rest and socialization into two days. I could get my…

I could get my work done in half the time I spend tied to my desk everyday – we all could – but I must sit there all day anyway so this guy can say things like that.
