I texted my boss because we are close and she's been to my house plenty of times, met my cat, and is a general animal lover. I told her that my senior kitty, who was 17, passed some congealed blood and I was taking her to what is essential an animal hospital. I was given a 6-8 hour time estimate from intake to discharge. Her response?
“If you're willing to take one of the other manager's shifts Saturday or Sunday, you can definitely get tomorrow off. I know if this were happening to me, I'd be there all night cuz I couldn't leave my baby's side. Please let me know when you can so I can get it sorted and so you can just focus on being there. Also please keep me updated personally because I care what happens to her”
Unfortunately, the prognosis was so bleak my wife and I decided it was her time. We scheduled it for Wednesday and would spend all of Tuesday with her. I informed my boss once more and she told me, “I'm so sorry to hear that. I'll take you off til Saturday (the shift I agreed to take) so you have time to be with her and mourne.”
The morning of she sent me a long text telling me about how good a life I gave my cat and other very touching things. Honestly if not for her having been my boss, I dont think I'd have had the ability to be there for my little girl in the end. Anyone that personally knows me how much that cat meant to me, and my boss went out of her way to support me even if the store ran short because it was something I needed.
This is a positive work appreciation post. I had to express somewhere how much that support meant to me.
