I am an English tutor in Indonesia and just graduated with my Bachelor's degree last year
When I was in college, I took some part-time teaching jobs. I got two actually, the first one is 60 kilometres away from my house but the pay was good around 9 dollars per 90 minutes. The distance was a disaster so I only taught during the weekend
The second one was pure exploitation. I had to teach every evening for 90 minutes, sometimes 180 minutes and you know what? They only paid me 2 bucks per 90 minutes! I had to teach a class with 8 to 10 students. I even got a job teaching IELTS and got paid only 3.5 bucks!. This company sucked almost 80% of their profit and gave scraps to their teachers. For example, students had to pay around 10 bucks per 90 minutes but the teachers only got 2 bucks. We also had to do some stupid extracurricular activities with the same pay.
Now, I have graduated and have been working at a school where I used to travel 60 kilometres. Their pay is fair and reasonable, if I work overtime I can earn more than the minimum wage. Also, I don't have to travel 60 kilometres anymore because I have moved closer to one of their branches
Recently, I got the news that the company which exploited the teachers are having a teacher shortage. Eat that greedy fucks! I hope no one wants to teach at yours and your greedy company go bankrupt! No one wants to teach hours just to get lunch money.
I should have not wasted my energy and time at that company. But at least, I am better now.
