my quitting stody

Setting: it's the beginning of November. Only a couple weeks till black Friday. I see people posting their quitting stories and I love reading them!! So here's mine: I worked for a shitty video game company as a manager. I started out as assistant manager, my store got shut down so they moved me to another store with a demotion (with promise to promote me). By the way they'd do this to me pretty much holiday season. Like good fucking luck. My pay was similar and it actually taught me the ropes so I wasn't upset. I was quickly promoted to assistant store leader at another location and then less than a year later I took over another store with a promotion to full on store manager. It was great. Hated the job but they kept to their word. All good. Problem is. No training. At any point. I was…

I was just thrown to be attacked by wolves. My district manager would repeatedly show up to my store and talk down to me saying “you're not going to ruin this store.” Relax our metrics were great and all the procedures were in place. She just wasn't happy at the visual state of the store but this is the thing.. always single coverage. Always! No time for anything.

Anyway, after around the 3 year mark, I couldn't take it anymore. I applied at a new job (my current) and got the gig!! I gave away one of my shifts because my mental health was deteriorating pretty rapidally. I couldn't even sleep at night because of the level of stress the job brought me.. with inefficient pay to boot.

I walked in on the day I gave my shift away (I gave it to someone who just had a baby and I figured he could use the money anyway. He was thrilled to take it) because I wanted to take advantage of one of our specials that was going on..
I had planned on calling my district manager that morning to let her know im leaving the company.
Coincidentally, she shows up to my store at the same time I was checking out. She comes in all ragey as usual and rips down a sign off our door. Idk why she did that to this day. She looks at me glaring ready to rip into me once again at the state of my store or whatever.

Professionalism out the window at this point.
Me “hey guess what!”
Dm: “what?”
Me: “I quit”
Dm: “no you dont.”
Me: “yup I got a new job. I'll be putting in my two weeks today. Thanks though.”

She drags me to the back room and questions me about my new job. I tell her I'm so thrilled to be leaving retail and entering a new industry that I'll make a real difference to the community in. She's like Kay.
This is nuts. My coworker who took my shift who had only been in the company for like 2 months ends up sneaking in and goes “ill take his job”. I knew he wanted it. He was a know it all. Pretty untrainable honestly.
She tells him we'd discuss it. And then she goes off at me saying “what you're going to give away all your shifts I bet!”
I say politely,”no I plan on finishing my tenure at this position because I don't want to leave my crew high and dry.”
She just mms at me.
“I gotta get on a conference call. I'll talk to you later.”
I just reply k and skip out of the store pretty literally.
A few hours go by.
My dm calls me:
“Hey. We (the regional office) discussed your two weeks. We've decided to let you go immediately. You will be paid out for that time.”

Like cool! I got paid out for 3 weeks like a day or so later along with all my vacation time. I got a 3 week time off of working in general and started my new job a couple weeks ago. I've been so happy and I feel a weigh lifted off of me.

If your mental health is deteriorating cuz of the job you work… get another job. Try to find one of course that suits your financial needs but if you need to take a pay cut, it's fine. Money will come
Do it. It feels great. My mental health is in a completely different place even though my wallet is lighter. It's fine!

Fuck that abusive company.
