I have a boss who is a hypercritical asshole. Literally no one does anything right. My peers and I are all in our 30s, all with college degrees, and he treats us like teenagers fresh out of high school: ie. barking orders, calling us “fucking idiots” with real rage, making oblique comments about how small our penises must be (this one’s a trip).
However, he seems to think I’m his special padawan. When we’re alone together he constantly complains about how terrible the other employees are (my peers and friends), making fun of other employees and trying to get me to make fun of them too. I really get the sense that he’s trying to form a bond with me, but he has no sense at all of how to do that.
This is one of his tactics that is both hilarious and incredibly boring. He’ll show me pictures of his vacations and possessions (like his stupid boat) and not-so-subtly tell me how much he paid for them. He’ll talk about how much money the company pays him and how much money he makes for the company. It’s honestly beyond belief, and I’m fucking tired of smiling and being professional and nice.
Needed a rant.
