(United States/ At Will State) My husband's job was terminated February of 2021. He worked for a bank (national chain) as a teller. At the time they had very strict COVID rules. Workers couldn't come in with a fever, had to get tested for Covid and had to remain out of work until testing came back negative, rapid testing was not readily available in our area at that time. He was sick often and because of this missed a good bit of work. He applied for unemployment and received it until November of 2021. During that time they never contested his benefits. Today we get a letter saying that he shouldn't have received benefits and that it was his fault he lost his job because of attendance and now he owes 13K back to the state. Some of it is from the actual unemployment but most of it is from the pandemic unemployment payments. We do not have money for a lawyer. What should we do? He became very sick in November and is now permanently disabled. Its been a very bad year.
