Never thought i’d need to post here, but i need some advice please.

So to cut to the chase, my boyfriend is an 18 year old living in Massachusetts. He recently (under two weeks ago) picked up a job at a unionized Stop n Shop, in the bakery department. During the hiring process, he mentioned to the hiring manager that he has recently had surgery in his back due to a herniated disc, and he may need accomadations as such. He just got fired. The hiring manager used him asking for a schedule change as a reason. His exact words were: “Nipping it at the bud, because once you get into the union it'll be impossible for me to fire you.”

The job position he was put in also required him to do the bakerie's heavy lifting, carrying around big boxes and managing the freezer stock. Again, he mentioned explicitly during hiring that he JUST had surgery in his back.

Is there anything i can do? Some of this stuff cannot be legal.
