im about a week into my new job as a dishwasher, there's a couple things I'd like to get off my chest
I'm a college student with a criminal record, so really I needed a part time job that can look past this- it hasn't been the easiest, I've bounced around some temp jobs, but I'm currently a dishwasher now and all things considering this is the best option for what I'm looking for in an job as of now… That said, here's the issues.
On my first day, I read the rulebook, and it implied breaks- that we'd be able to go to our car. This is not true. There are no breaks- no 30 minute- we cannot go to our cars. If you have time to step out, you can take a five minute or so here and there by the dumpsters. I don't like this, because there's no concrete rule it's basically just winging my breaks- and as an employee, this should be disrespectful to all of those who put their time and effort intothis place. Secondly, I found out you can't leave during breaks- it can result in being fired. My coworker goes on his phone about as much as he works (apparently also a rulebreaker), yet told on me for leaving the premise- that was how I learned that particular rule (not stated in rulebook) and already I'm not liking the vibe here but I'm hoping I can influence it if maybe after i stay awhile… Also, you MUST be 10 minutes early each day or it is considered late. I get the need for punctuality, but these rules I feel like are really bending the realm of legality…
