Hi All,
So yesterday I was offered the role of the Practice Manager, as they recently quit, with additional administrative work on the side.
However the job has been offered to me as “Admin assistant” – it was “sold” to me as this with the CEO adding “and also managing the staff” as though it's an admin role with manager responsibilities on the side, however it's very clearly a manager role with administrative support.
The CEO made it clear she doesn't want to have anything to do with this business as she's focusing solely on the other aspect of it, which is where I'd be the supporting admin – pulling data to give you her so she's able to make that part of the business viable.
I'm currently a receptionist, been here since Feb 2022, who's doing more work than initially discussed because I have the appropriate skillset for pulling and analysing data. I was due for a review at the start of this year which was agreed to when I took a payrise of only $2 last year, putting me on $27 as of now.
The CEO has offered me $30 per hour to manage the business; this includes chasing up debtors, managing staff (reception and practitioners – I work for an allied health clinic) and their annual leave, sick days etc, managing the website, organising weekend expos for the business, stock ordering, insurance, managing customer complaints, upkeeping the work manual, troubleshooting any and all IT issues etc…
She's offering 24 hours per week at $30 per hour instead of 23 hours per week at $27. There's not much difference with what I'd be taking home (I get penalty rates on Saturdays as reception)
I feel like right now I should be on $29 per hour as reception as that would likely be the result after the review I was promised as compromise for my last review. So really, I'd be doing all this extra work with this extra responsibility for only $1 extra per hour…
I feel like the offer is a huge insult as well as the title.
My main concern is her in general. Practitioners working here have recently come together to obtain legal advise due to the new contract the CEO wants them to sign.
One of the clauses was, if they want more than their 4 weeks off per year, she would expect them to pay her 20% of their earnings from their previous month.
For an idea of how much that's asking, one practitioner worked this out to be $3,000.
The CEO blurs the line when it comes to their contracts, calls then employees when it benefits her and calls then subcontractors when it benefits her. So she's getting away not paying them annual leave, sick days etc. And the practitioners are yet to solve this issue with the CEO.
I feel like it would be blind of me to even negotiate a better deal with the CEO for this position even though I probably could and can definitely do the job.
What are your honest opinions?
