I'm a seasoned professional in my very niche industry. My industry is usually found in big cities like LA, CHI or NY. The problem is, I don't like living in the city. I like suburban/quiet neighborhood.
So, when I saw an opportunity for similar position in another state/smaller city (well known company in my industry), I applied. I am well qualified for the position, having 10+ year experience in the game.
Few days later, I received an email from the recruiter, I thought this was to schedule an interview. As it turned out, they wanted me to answer 10+ questions as part of the process. Now, if the questions are just basic questions like “do you need sponsorship” “are you willing to work hybrid” etc, then sure.
Instead what I got was questions like: what are the types of companies/softwares I am familiar with. I was asked to provide my salary range, If I were willing to relocate on my own, my experience in the industry, and here's the big red flag, they want me to list the names of my industry contacts PLUS professional references.
WTF, they didn't even have the courtesy to schedule an interview with me or even the generic “feel free to email me if you have questions about the position”. I thought interviews were supposed to be a two way street, not just for the employer but also the potential candidates, WTF IS THIS?
I Ignored the email.
