New job with no training

Started a new job about a month ago. I was literally shown my desk and was given no guidance on anything. I’m trying to just learn the processes of the organization, but I have little to no support. I’m being placed on conference calls and not given any context of what these calls are about, and I’m being asked questions I obviously do not have the answers to. It is getting to a point of embarrassment. I went through something similar with my prior organization and it really affected my mental health and I’m afraid that I have a joined another fire. Where are the companies that provide support for their employees and don’t set them up to fail? You can only sink or swim to a certain point until you are essentially useless. Suggestions for keeping computer screen active while away from desk?

I work remote at a job that occasionally has quite large periods of potential down time during the day. However the general expectation is that I stay online during standard work hours so other people can easily reach out to me. I found I couldn’t even leave my desk for more than 10 minutes because my company computer will auto lock after that and show me as “Away” on teams. For the last year or so, I used Move Mouse to keep my screen active while I did chores etc around the house. However, today I found the app doesn’t work (potentially my company changing restrictions). I am currently trying out a new app called Wiggler, but I’m curious if anyone else has any suggestions for keeping your screen active while away from your computer?

Rant about vacation and my bosses reaction

Its not that I'm even surprised anymore. I took 2 weeks off back in April for June 26th till July 5th. I didn't think to schedule the weekend before to have off because I always had weekends off. Even in the past I was actually scolded for scheduling weekends off on my vacation time (that i never got to use because work or family needed me) because it insinuated that “I didn't think my manager could do his job” Surprisingly the vacation time was granted and when I was scheduled next week and reminded him I was on vacation (with a time stamped text saying I was going away) He was quick to reschedule everything. Getting the schedule now i see… I'm scheduled weekends. I tell him about it and he goes on about how “2 weeks is too much to ask” (i asked for a week and 4 days)…

No yearly review

I recently hit my 1 year mark at my current job. No one’s mentioned anything about having my yearly review. We got paid today and I noticed on my payslip that my hourly rate got increased by 60 cents, which is like a 2% raise. Is that normal, does it suck, should I say anything about not having a review or just let it go and be glad I got something?

Can Ya’ll Stop Blaming the Departments and Start Blaming the Business?

A lot of posts here blame management, HR, or their department head for their work life being intolerable. News flash, it’s intolerable for everyone and 99% of your complaints are what owners and executives force their underlings to impose upon staff. You really think your manager is having the time of their life working with skeleton crews because the owners refuse to hire anyone? You think HR sits in their office all day thinking “Pizza parties will fix it”? People can only operate within the structure of the company and what the folks in power allow, middle management gives certain types of people power trips but for the most part they’re making literally $2 more an hour, or getting salary and working 50-60 hours.
