A while back I got a job at a record store. The boss was precisely what you would expect. Burnout 90's kid with money. He seemed cool but when he told me he was a “capitalist with socialist values” I kinda lost all respect lol. He bragged to me constantly about not paying taxes, paid me under the table, and a dollar under minimum wage. Constantly talked down to our female customer base. Had an insane superiority complex and was just outright insecure. Constant verbal abuse from him. My job was to itemize the store's inventory online. One day I told him that we couldn't directly upload inventory into the store and he had a meltdown took my store keys, and sent me home. Since I had worked for an hour that day I was legally entitled to 3 hours pay (Ontario, Canada). I texted him asking about it multiple…
Grandfathers stroke
I literally just now about an hour ago got a call from my mom that my grandfather had a stroke. I'm currently working and sent a message to my manager letting her know what happened and that I'm taking some personal time to call family. When I came back my manager said that due to taking so much time they are making my one hour lunch break 20 minutes…..like cool awesome love it. It's not like my family member almost just died and I was trying to find out what happened.

Excellerationist boss
I work for a state government that has a 20% vacancy. Division of public assistance cant process foodstamps applications, roads dont get plowed in the winter or fixed in the summer, schools are being defunded and money is moving towards homes schooling. But our governor gives himself and his cronies a raise. This is excellerationism. The state is crumbling and it is terrifying. There is a house bill that will give state employees and municipal educators and university employees a pathetic but better than nothing pension and i cant get anyone i work with to care about it!!!! Is this upsidedown world?
Words can’t even explain how absolutely infuriated I am right now. The job I’m at right now makes me never want to have a job again. Let me get started: it’s not just this that is a problem. The truth is, I have worked at this job for three months and I’ve only made about $400. They have worked me 10 hours a week maximum. on top of that, I have been penalized by my boss for going through the proper measures to swap my shift with someone for a final exam. My car broke down, and I was stranded, and I told them I wasn’t going to be able to make it to work. I also got penalized for that. I had also requested vacation time off for my girlfriend’s 21st birthday. I gave them a very long notice, and this workplace picks a lot of favorites. One person…
The main office at my company sent out a memo to all employees saying everyone is required to take a 30 minute lunch break and we're no longer allowed to eat while working. I'm fine with that as most days I'm able to take lunch but the last sentence of the message said “If employees do not take their break, 30 minutes will be removed for that day.” Theres no way that's legal right? Those are hours worked even if they were supposed to take lunch
This might be a crazy suggestion but the most radical thing you can do in America today is live in an intentional community. After generations of pushing individualism (where historically your nuclear family could live on a single salary), we are now seeing how little safety or mobility we have on our own. Living in community (depending on the type you join) would ease need for external resources (oh look you have a beautiful farm with fresh produce, eggs, meats, etc!), you're pooling resources and potentially income for the betterment of the community, you're receiving support raising your kids/ completing chores, the community itself has an income selling/ providing goods and services. The ultimate protest for current society and the best thing for the environment as well would be for us all to live in smaller communities. We are a tribe species pretending we are not in this modern world…
