The main office at my company sent out a memo to all employees saying everyone is required to take a 30 minute lunch break and we're no longer allowed to eat while working. I'm fine with that as most days I'm able to take lunch but the last sentence of the message said “If employees do not take their break, 30 minutes will be removed for that day.” Theres no way that's legal right? Those are hours worked even if they were supposed to take lunch
This might be a crazy suggestion but the most radical thing you can do in America today is live in an intentional community. After generations of pushing individualism (where historically your nuclear family could live on a single salary), we are now seeing how little safety or mobility we have on our own. Living in community (depending on the type you join) would ease need for external resources (oh look you have a beautiful farm with fresh produce, eggs, meats, etc!), you're pooling resources and potentially income for the betterment of the community, you're receiving support raising your kids/ completing chores, the community itself has an income selling/ providing goods and services. The ultimate protest for current society and the best thing for the environment as well would be for us all to live in smaller communities. We are a tribe species pretending we are not in this modern world…
Has anyone worked for a business that allows tips to be left on a credit card after the contracted work and has to pay over 10% to process it?
Hello all! I post this after seeing a lot of traction on another post about someone in HR spewing some nonsensical rules. It is not the fault of HR things are like this With little surprise, I work in HR myself, still a young career, and I've been dealing with some corporate nonsense everyday. I loved the idea of rethinking work as it is an imposing aspect of one's life and I wanted to add my two cents to it. I was a fool, kinda. The system is inherently difficient. It builds upon an infinite accumulation of wealth. Capitalism is the true problem. Corporations only want one thing : wealth In a perfect capitalist world, an organization's only goal is to cumulate wealth and to be profitable to its shareholders, owners, or whomever have the reins. There are multiple ways for a company to accumulate wealth. Sadly, one of them…
It’s my first job and I don’t know if this means I’m going to get paid less or not. It looks like they’re going to add on more taxes to my gross pay which will be annoying.
Yesterday another Supervisor on my crew (I’m of the same position, just newer to the crew) began screaming at me over an issue in front of all the other employees. Not once did the other supervisor talk to me privately about the issue before hand. While she was screaming at me she also was verbally threatening me. Making it really seem like she wanted to fight – so I walked away. I will admit the issue she was yelling about I was in the “wrong” for (it’s one of the unnecessary rules that most days she also doesn’t enforce) ; but she could’ve just spoke to me privately. Instead she chose to scream at me in front of the entire work crew, twice and threaten me. I decided to wait to discuss the unprofessionalism they displayed yesterday till today, assuming they would be calmer. They began to scream at me…
I see a ton of posts on here asking why we don't all go on strike together. Idk about you kiddos but i can't afford to just not work. I mean how would anyone go on strike when most of us just barely have enough to get by??? I love the idea of a huge number of people across all different fields of work organizing a huge multi faceted strike demanding new laws and better protections but i just cant see it happening. Even if there was already a plan in place for this and a massive amount of people signed up and could do it, i know i couldnt join in… im sorry but i know ill be hungry tomorrow and i know ill need a car and insurance and gas money tomorrow. Tomorrow it might rain and it would be nice to have a spot to keep all…
