Working for What?
My husband and I are not young or old, we have a preteen, both of us work, have been working since the day we could. We rent a small house, each have a vehicle (only one we pay on), a dog and a cat. We would be considered the very definition of a “nuclear family” today. The problem is we have always made JUST ENOUGH to get by with enough to do something fun locally like movies or to the carnival, when in town, once a month… Which I guess I should be appreciative of given the current state of things, but it still SUCKS! We each have vacation days but never use them for vacation. We have never seen an ocean or a mountain in our lives. My employer has been incredibly rude, sending me emails with all caps in red letters and telling me to “get back to work” in a extremely rude tone. They dont have anyone else on a task list and Ive been on one for months. They are extremely rude to me all the time and treat me like crap. I clocked out and left today and they are saying that they will take it as a resignation. I did not say I was quitting only clocking out and going home because they were extremely rude. I want to report them. but am finding it difficult. EEOC is not letting me file a complaint. because its a small business less than 15 people. This is just a thought experiment but I’m wondering if anyone else sees the same trail of dots and connects them in the same way. Post covid most companies have come under pressure from the financial markets to recover lost profits, so they increased prices. This resulted in reduced demand as no one was earning more money so corps have had to look elsewhere to fully meet expectations. As the offices were empty some looked at liquidating their real estate holdings only to realize that a) there is oversupply (hence reduced worth) and b) that their stock valuations (and therefore this years bonus) were in part based on the value of real estate held by corporations.
