Look I’m not very experienced and I probably don’t know half of what I’m talking about. I’m more book-smart than street and work smart. I am not educated on many work laws. But I find it fucking angering that Outback Steakhouse, my new place of work where I’m a hostess, schedules me for only a few shifts a week that are about 6 hours each (part-time work), despite my being over 18 and having open availability. They know that if they schedule me for 8 hours, they have to give me a half-hour unpaid break. And all I want is 5-10 minutes to scarf down my food and they won’t even give me that (except one sympathetic manager). Just adore being told another candidate was chosen, came in today for new hire paper work and training, but refused a drug test so I’m next in line. Never received a call or email with a denial of my application. But a random text “can you come in, get only a half day training, and start Monday”. My last job was a shit show. This one sure is giving me the same vibes.

My wife is an elementary school teacher at a school district in San Jose, California. She’s been the victim of multiple jokes between admin, staff and some parents. She also happens to be the only darker skinned person in the whole school which blows my mind for such a diverse population in the area. They definitely treat her as the token Latina. Earlier this year they told her they wouldn’t renew her contract for the next school year but would let her keep working until the end of the year and would fulfill their end of the contract (pay her) if she just kept working. They also did not involve a union rep for this talk, and got really upset when she spoke to her union rep about this. Been a salaried employee for going on eight years. Gave my boss lots of notice in regards to major surgery. My last day of work before the surgery he loses his mind because I'm applying for sick benefits through gov't employment insurance (in Canada, company does not offer short term disability) and is extremely angry I'm not using vacation time… yelling angry. He has not reached out to me to see how everything went. Fully expect to be fired when I get back. Never had a write up and reviews have all been excellent but he hired his son to replace me while I'm off. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have been trying very hard to find a new job. Of course the really good companies takes months of applying for the same job to get an interview. I work with people who just always need to throw that jab at you/belittle you every time you confirm something or you follow a process. You then get yelled at because the process has since changed but management changes their policy when it'll benefit them. We're all hurting for business and this company is struggling to find people to work for them in every department. I wonder why?

Need help with keeping up with billing and other office things to needing help with tasks like taking a vehicle in to get new tires or doing online research. So yes, the job will intel a large variety of different tasks.
