Wait… what?
As the title asks really. Help this Brit understand why corporate America hates unions so much and why are bosses arsewipes?
That’s why
VACATION IS VACATION
My wife and I just got into an small argument about her taking vacation time off this summer for my birthday. We are planning a trip to the beach, and in the middle of the conversation she said something that floored me. She said, that she would just go in early and work a little over the week before and check her emails. She works in customer service. I stated to her that was ridiculous, vacation is vacation. She earned that time off and doesn’t owe that company any extra work before or after the time off. Her CSR manager could manage the situation and plan accordingly. She thinks I’m over reacting, but I think isn’t valuing herself or time appropriately.
Over half the people you ask in a liberal arts college say that they want to be lawyers. They have envisioned & prepared for a life of functioning courts and advocating for the citizen. While it’s correct on paper to argue that advocacy disempowers the citizen, you’ve got swathes of students and people in the law community who at best can only envision reform of State power rather than its dissolution . It’s risky to poke the bear & simply decry them as disempowering the average citizen and make them more invigorating to defend the status quo. I’m not out to besmirch people in law, and I encourage you to respond. It’s just that the State is inherent (as of now) to what you do. What would you do in a stateless society with workers & community councils as the prime source of power?
Corporate on Comedy Central
This show ended last year but it was a gem. It's a darker version of Office Space. I think people here might enjoy it.
“It’s hard to find good help”
I remember my supervisors and managers constantly saying this a decade ago. Of course at the time I thought it was an issue with the employees. Who would call out of their 12 hour a day, 5-6 day a week, no overtime pay (I don't know how they got away with this), minimum wage job. Now I know they would find good help if they paid more and treated their employees better (they still don't from what I hear). Things never do change do they
