I was going to start using doordash so I talked to a friend who said the employees made most of their money off tips. I don’t believe in tipping because the employer should be paying the employee not me. So I wanted to discuss here and see what peoples thoughts and opinions were. For the record, I generally do tip but I’m trying to get into the habit of not to help create a change in the culture.
My brother in law started working for amazon recently. He believes he was wrongfully terminates and wants to file unemployment. He was fired for “Stealing time” but was he wasn’t, he was tending to his accommodation issues which he signed papers on. Does anyone have advice on his to best ask for his termination in writing? Thanks
I am finally checked out and done
Throw away because well you’ll get it in a minute. I have a disability and I had an episode recently that laid me out I was able to finally return to work today. I asked my work to alter my work load because I don’t want to get overworked and have another episode. I was told no we are too short staffed to do that so that won’t be happening. I provided a screen grab highlighted of the ADA and that I am protected by this. I was told my boss would reach out to HR “on my behalf to get more information for me” I told them it wasn’t for me I knew my rights. They have had me waiting for well Over two hours to make this small change. So I filed a complaint against them with the dept of Justice. I have been with my company far…
Storytime – Underpaid and Overworked
Throwaway for obvious reasons I am transferring to a new department within my company for a role that is more suited for my background. Before I met with HR to discuss my new job, I received the job description, which is a copy and paste of all the responsibilities of a level higher of my current position with some additional job responsibilities. Since I had a stellar performance review, a higher level job description, and I am finishing my masters degree in the field in May (structural engineering), I reasonably expected a pay increase and a title change for this new job. During my meeting with HR, neither a pay increase or a title change was mentioned, so at the end of the call, I respectfully asked for my merit to be reviewed along with my title. I had statatics that I was paid in the lower 10% of people…
Need Outside Opinions
Please be kind as I am not a fluent redditor. I am but a humble nurse. I'm posting this in hopes that I will gain some outside perspective on this situation. I work for a public health organization which allows student nurses to shadow us for two days out of the week. My position in the company is more out in the community than most. I do have a small office at one of the branches with a phone dedicated to myself (this will be important later). I have discovered that not only has my DON given the instructors my personal cell number, the instructors have given my cell number to the students to contact me and arrange meeting me for shadowing instead of contacting me at my work extension. I felt this was invasive and frankly poor boundaries. What say you people of reddit? Is this fair? Do I…
salary bullshit
To start I work at a well know fast-food chain. we are a franchise, we own half a dozen stores in our region, I completed a class at our corporate HQ to become a General Manager. After a month of not telling me how much I am making, I have just been lowballed a salary of ≈$41,500. Right now I make ≈$38,480($18.50hrly). For only a $3000 yearly increase I will have to work 45+ hours. For approx $17.73 for the base 45 hrs a day plus i have to work as needed without additional pay. Their reasoning is we are backup GMs and we are being developed so they don't want us to make as much as their GMs that run their stores, which I perfectly understand. Yet my GM does absolutely nothing and they know this. With the increase in responsibility; dedication to keeping our times down; in our…
Abysmal appraisal
I got my appraisal yesterday and it's worth pennies. They added a variable component to my salary saying this will be paid basis organization performance. The organisation has been shit at performing lately so all that I've received is a mere 12% hike when I was supposed to get promotion and a 30% hike was promised. Screw this I'm leaving as soon as I find better opportunity.
I am a director at my current company with several different hats in the company. I let my company know I was moving on last week – it was mutual. My boss asked for a month transition vs. just 2 weeks since there isn't a backfill and would require some level of documentation. I was able to accommodate the request as I'm trying to leave on good terms – mostly for my team that I worked so hard to build. HR just set up the exit interview for the end of this week (a week and a half into my 4 week notice). I've only had roles where an exit interview was the very end, so I look to r/antiwork for advice: Is this an early dismissal? Am I expected to finish the final 3 weeks? If not, do I get paid out for those 3 weeks, since my notice…
Discrimination
I've been harassed for my sexual orientation since starting a new job last summer. After spending weeks trying to get a response from HR, I was terminated today after telling my attacker to send any messages to my manager rather than myself. It's a huge statewide hospice agency and it absolutely floors me that they have people working in this organization with these feelings. Just the thought of this population having to deal with these bigots is incredibly saddening. I suppose on the brighter side I don't have to deal with any of them any longer. Any tips for what to do with this type of freedom?
My brothers coworker just walked
Short but sweet, honestly. My brother is one of three keyholders for a certain dollarish themed store. Yesterday, his coworker (an ASM) and a new guy (non-ASM) unloaded a truck. At the end of the truck, they closed but forgot to lock, the back door. Store manager called the ASM into the office earlier for a stern talking to and a demotion, demanding the store keys. This store routinely fucks their people out of their days off, out of their raises and generally treats them as disposable entities rather than people. I've watched them abuse my brother to the point of tears for literally no net gain for the store. So when I say that the ASM, a young woman routinely dealing with family issues, dropped the keys and walked out, I relished it. My brother is picking up the slack. He's still young, he doesn't want to risk his…
