I have a friend who grew up in this particular generation. Before his senior year in high school, he took a shit job in the service industry and worked overtime to achieve his goal: To buy a new Ford Mustang. After a few months of working overtime, he had enough money to buy it, and had it payed off about a year later. Imagine how motivated our newer generations would be in contributing to society, if their labor was worth as much as it was back in 1978.
If you need to work in order to just have food and shelter. This is no different than slavery in my opinion. We need UBI in order to cover the basics so that humans may flourish to their full potential.

I got my manager fired
I was working from home, manager told me I had to come in even though I already stated I had covid. Was forced to come in, infected several people. Director caught wind, he was let go.
Margarine is $7.50
I’m in a HCOL. I can’t eat dairy because it makes me sick. I went to buy margarine last night—it’s $7.50 for 13 oz. One quarter more than the federal minimum hourly wage. Yesterday, someone posted a photo of gas (maybe in California) that was $7.49/gallon. So for two hours of work in the US, I can get a tub of fake butter and one gallon of gas. Gas in my area is hovering around $4.75/gallon, so I have that going for me I guess. Minimum wage here is $15/hr. So for one hour of work, I can get a tub of margarine and about 1.5 gallons of gas. I didn’t buy the margarine. I know it isn’t good for me anyway.
