I saw this pop up on Twitter and thought it was truly disgusting behavior! A union in Iceland laid off all of its 40 some employees on the first day that a new chairperson took control. The new chairperson didn't even have the decency to show up for work that day and instead she had lawyers send out the resignation letters at 2:00 am in the morning. The plan apparently is to hire people back that want to apply again but at lower wages. To top it all off the employees have to work there until their notice is up which happens to be on May 1st, International Workers' Day. That's an incredible fuck you to the employees and definitely done on purpose. This is what happens when capitalists take over a union. They destroy the organization from within. Fire all of the staff and expect them to come back…
She had let them know voluntarily about her depression before starting work there and was “let go” for asking to have 1-2 days a month off for flare ups during a meeting with HR an hour ago. Employer just said yeah we can’t do that and that was essentially all even though she presented a doctors note stating she may need 1-2 days/week. This has to be grossly illegal and I’m just wondering if there’s anything we can do to combat it? Should we try to find an employment attorney? Feeling a lot of emotions right now and appreciate any advice. This happened in Washington state btw at a small home healthcare organization with just under 100 employees.
Question about mileage reimbursement and
So I’m pretty sure my company is gearing up to fire me because a program I work has run into some difficulties and it’s looking like I’m gonna be the scapegoat. I’m trying to get my mileage paid out and all of a sudden the standards have become much stricter. I’ve been getting paid out for over a year on reimbursement with no issue before (red flag that clued me in even more to what’s going on). If I can’t get this completed in time with jumping through all the extra hoops added on, will they weasel their way out of reimbursement?
Managers with bad memories
Once upon a time, I worked for a group affiliated with, but not actually part of, the nearby university. I did various things with them, but one ongoing project was to design and maintain their website, one that was hosted on the university's server (it even had a university-based address). This was a small group, with not that much going on, and this was back in the early 2000s, so security wasn't absent, but less of a thing. I did most of the work at the office, and the log-in and password to work on the website was on an index card tacked to the secretary's bulletin board (she had a private office and the bulletin board was mostly out of view). I left that group in less than happy circumstances; I wasn't alone. Within a couple of years, the whole group was gone, building reclaimed by the university, and…
I work in a warehouse and in the last couple of weeks me and my co-workers are losing privileges and are being grinded more. They used to be lenient with phone use but they suddenly felt the need to prohibit our use while working altogether. I work a 6 hour shift and last week they told me I was allowed a 20 minute break. Now they told me I only get 10 minutes. Also, everyone has to text our supervisor before we go on break so he can make sure we’re not taking longer breaks. For those with 30 minute unpaid lunch breaks, they threatened to fire anyone who punches in before 30 minutes, because anything under is automatically paid by the system we use. One of my bosses accidentally sent me a text, revealing they are talking about how low my quotas are some days when picking. Me and…
I'm a supervisor fill in for when the other supervisor wants time off. My time is split between public spaces, rooms, laundry and supervising. We've been short staffed to the point where in one day, I am all those titles. I'm fucking tired I'm so tired of working 7+ days with one day off (maybe two days off when the hotel gods favor me) because we're short staffed. I've been there for almost 3 years now and we have always been short staffed even before Covid. I have a family who's school and work schedule is M-F with weekends off. Not me. I complained repeatedly for weeks, to the other lead supervisor, to the AGM , the GM and HR about doing every other weekend, even pleaded for every other Saturdays at least because I know Sundays are our busiest days. I was told that they'd “work something out, shouldn't…
How do you survive in support roles?
My field is IT and im typically in tier 3 desktop or server engineer type roles but my role is always meticulously watched hell my last manager literally said i have to hit 7-8 hours of solid work and that i have to prove my worth in the company every day (basically or i'll get fired if im not firing on all cylinders and providing 8 hours of solid work with proof)… This just always ends with me being burnt out. what are some jobs in my field i can take or work towards where i can have some more freedom and i wont get burnt out so much? *inserting random image for attention* https://preview.redd.it/aprahgdz4jt81.jpg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1858c19b6ad0cb9490e8e904ca99bcef23851f6
