The average peasant worked 150 days a year. Often rewarded with beers and feasts. You work a 60 plus hour week and they take 28 percent of your wage in taxes. And if you're lucky you might get cold soggy pizza hut once a month where they talk about how awesome you guys did and how much money you made them. How awesome is it 15 extra minutes for lunch where they talk about the millions you made while only paying you 15 bucks thank you massa I love being a slave to your organization. What the fuck happened why did we allow this.
My Boomer uncle doesn’t understand
I think everyone here is in agreement that as it's currently practiced in the US, UK, etc. its pretty horrible for the bottom 80% or so, and is virtually indentured servitude for the bottom 20%. It doesn't have to be this way. Countries like Finland are still a mix of capitalism and socialism, as are the US, UK, etc. Its just a different ratio there. The entire world economy is capitalist, and it's a fact that it's not going away. Trying to get rid of capitalism is as achievable as willing unicorns into existence. What we actually need, in contrast, is actually quite do-able (though not easy, obviously): A realignment of wage differentials and taxes somewhat similar to what we had in the 1950s…where a blue collar/ service industry job could buy you a house & support a family of 4, with vacation time, pensions, etc. And universal healthcare. These…
I’ve applied at a total of 216 jobs in the past week. Yes, 216. I received one single call back for an interview at a local Lowes and was told to show at the site at 12PM the day after the next. I arrive for the interview, and no one has a clue I am supposed to be getting an interview and the guy who was conducting it wasn’t even there. 30 minutes went by without me talking to anyone, so I got up and said “if I had the nerve to show up to an interview 30 minutes late, you wouldn’t even have the nerve to talk to me, so neither will I. Thanks for wasting my time, Lowes. There’s a reason no one works for you.
well ok then
Hi everyone, I started working at this company in March and I am fairly young, 22, and I had no prior experience but still learned everything fairly quickly and resulted in good work. I was working tirelessly for the past couple of months, even overtime, and I was quite stressed out. My job was corporate work like emails, excel sheets, phone calls etc. Working overtime often meant I would sleep very late and sometimes I was unable to wake up early but I still tried and did so. Earlier last week, I missed a phone call from my boss which I immediately answered and that resulted in me being fired. I don't think it's fair and I don't know what to do.
how do I get myself fired?
So, I(m19) want to stop working. I hate the job that I have because ever since a reorganisation caused my former manager, who everyone really liked, and a shit ton of other people at the store to leave. Along with this, I find my pay shit(only €6) and I want to work Sundays but Im put on saturdays. Also, I want to go to the manager to ask for eighter a Higher pay or being moved to the sunday. But not sure how. So, does anyone have any tips so I can fired rather the quitting? Cuz then I Will get more benefits.
I was pondering this morning, having experienced variously: Being forced to wear ugly, low-quality, ill-fitting branded workwear in a non-customer-facing role – a couple of which were manual trades where the workwear wasn't rugged enough. I had my own trade-appropriate clothing which I was not permitted to wear. Being forced to wear suit & tie every day in a non-customer-facing office role on minimum wage meaning I could only afford super-cheap versions of these. In a couple of those jobs dress-down Fridays were treated as rewards for performance (there were no other performance rewards). In my last such role the management could and did what they wanted while we had to keep our jackets and ties on even in the middle of Summer. None of these jobs even had the thin excuse that it was a corporate policy. Most were small businesses where the dress code was written and enforced…
