I just wanted to rant really quick about my job Now I want to say that I’m not completely innocent. Some are weeks are better than others in terms of time management. HOWEVER, there are weeks that I just have too much on my plate and I have to call out. Well one of those weeks was two weeks ago. I was scheduled Friday, Saturday, Sunday. But I had to call out on Friday. And now finals week starts the week of the 24th, meaning I cannot work any of those days because My exams start at 6pm and my shifts are 12 (7-7). So I called my boss to inform her before she finalizes that months schedule. She goes in on my about how “I can’t just not work, and It was unacceptable to for me to call out” and how “she spent hours balancing the schedule” and that…
I don't want to say union, because I've been a union member and there are benefits to that, for sure. But it was like working as an employee for a shitty company while having to pay into, and be involved in, a shittier political party. The traditional union either has to evolve or we have to build something better. That said, though, with the strength of the unions diminishing over the years, the power of the working force has been left to the mercy of the corporations. And the corporations are just hungry raging forest fires looking for anything to consume. It really doesn't matter who runs them. Success requires they squeeze every penny out of every orifice that will exude them. And the tighter they squeeze the people, the more desperate the people become. And the more desperate they are, the less pay they will accept. We could hope…
If so how did you manage?
let that sink in. A literal scam is required by the FTC to disclose income (Income disclosure statement), but so called legitimate jobs are not. Honestly, it should be a nation wide law that job postings have to post starting pay.
Housing scalpers.
You’d think they’d treat their employees like gold so as not to lose even more. When it was east to find a job, employers were like, “Pfft, good luck finding better somewhere else.” You’d think they’d get with the times and say, “oh shit, sorry. What can I get you so you’ll stay? More money? More flexible hours? If you leave, we’re boned.” I guess their misplaced feeling of entitlement and superiority is hard to shake. I’ll say it in their language: they better learn that treating their employees right is profitable soon because this is hurting their bottom line.
let me just say, i was a starbucks barista for 4 years. i really pushed myself too, i wanted to get promoted. i came home after being awake since 3am and just slept away the rest of the day because i was so unbelievably tired. being on your feet, running around, dealing with karens, having to clean every inch of the store of the store frequently, having a drive thru line down to the end of the street and having to have someones order out in less than a minute all while being understaffed is harder than you think. ive seen people quit after a week from being miserable. but today i saw some asshole on the internet say “if you want more money than dont be a barista” as if this doesnt completely disregard the fact that people still need to do that job and survive. not everyone has…
