Been working there for almost 2 years. I was hired as a CADD drafter. What do I do? Sweep floors, mop floors, and run testing on things we manufacture. They have me create word documents for instructions. I showed up yesterday and my boss told me to go find work somewhere else in the building for an hour! (When basically my job is doing testing). I’m just so fed up and feel like my skills are going down the drain. I only stay because i’m a college student and it’s flexible, but I would love to find an online only job.
This is definitely the antiwork anthem
Boss man thought he could slip it by me
To make a long story short, I’ve worked at this place a grand total of three months and in that time it’s already a bigger shitshow than where I worked before for two YEARS. Won’t say the exact name, not sure who could be watching, but it rhymes with Eddy’s and has custard. I put ONE SINGLE DAY on my application that I absolutely cannot work, I’m disabled and have a chronic autoimmune disorder that there’s no cure for, but the treatment for it is like 20k USD yearly without insurance, but that treatment is every four weeks and has been on Wednesdays for roughly eight years since I started the treatment. I CAN’T change when I get it because every day without it increases my risk of going into anaphylactic shock. I work five days this week. That was my schedule. Then I got an interesting little notification about…
Moon: An Antiwork recommendation
I promise you this post belongs in this subreddit. I just wanted to recommend the movie Moon, starting Sam Rockwell. It's an indie film from a few years back that most people haven't heard of or seen. I don't want to spoil anything but it is very Antiwork and anti-capitalist sci-fi that I think people would enjoy as it raises some questions of how work could look in the future. It's on HBO Max right now but it's worth looking out for in whatever streaming apps you use.
Desperate need for advice.
Apologies in advance – my head is not in the right place, but I'm happy to answer any questions anyone has short of outing myself completely I've been with my organization for 12 years. It's highly specialized within government / higher ed / medical. For those 12 years, I have had a record of outstanding performance reviews. My boss was amazing, my work family was amazing, and then were only ever the normal hiccups Under questionable circumstances, my boss abruptly announced early retirement with only 30 days notice. This in and of itself is extremely shocking as Old Boss was/is a God in the field and anyone who knew him said he was going to work every day for the rest of his life On the staff side, I was his second in command. When COVID began, he embraced the evolution of flexible work programs, and for the most part…
“Doesn't matter you still coming you cannot die. This week very busy you off I must be lose a lot business”. ( He's Malaysian and speaks very broken English ). I've worked for the man for nearly 10 years. Earning a extra few hundred quid is more important than my wellbeing and the health of others ( including himself ) it would seem. What's the point.
Context: I'm nineteen; I work at a truck stop in a smaller town and work full-time. I have my license, am saving money, and have aspirations for growth in life. Anyway, I was working at aforementioned truck stop last night and was talking to an older man about my generation and what it's like for us. After I told him I'm nineteen and trying to work to save money, he went on a tangent about how kids my age don't want to drive, want to be “chauffeured” 24/7, and that we're too lazy to work. He then went on to ask me if this was the only job I had (which it is), and I told him I put in forty hours per week and am saving money. After hearing me say that, he started bragging about how he used to have three farm jobs when he was only seven…
What If We Just…Stopped Working? – YouTube At least, in my opinion. We even got a shout out!
